What is a Tempo Run.

Written by Phil on January 25th, 2012. Posted in Running, Tempo Run, Training

It turns out it’s a run you find “comfortably hard” that means every run I have done since I started running has been a tempo run. I think?

Anyway today I did a 3 miler that was hard. A tempo run then.

    A tempo run:

Divide your running distance into three.

For the first third, run a little bit easier than your normal effort (ie slower).
For the second third, run a little bit harder than your normal effort (ie faster).
For the third third, go back to a little bit easier (ie slower).

Include these in your training, and you’ll find that either you start going a bit quicker when doing your “normal” effort, or that you’re able to sustain “harder” efforts (ie faster) for longer.

    Voila!
