7 Miles Around The Great Orme

We do this run 3 or 4 times a year. The kids are at school and we book the time off to spend the morning running around this massive Limestone rock on the North Wales coast and then rewarding ourselves with something hugely calorific but delicious. It’s 3 miles up and 3 miles down with the last mile running down the prom. In February the Nick Beer 10km race is held here which we have done a few times over the years.

This Sunday in a howling gale we plodded around but despite a cloudy start were rewarded with some great views of Snowdonia. We couldn’t hang around to long at the top as it was getting a bit nippy. Great run and a lot of fun.

Back Running

I’ve had about a month off from running and today was my first proper run in ages. I have a cross country half marathon coming up early in the new year. I’m doing this in an effort to keep off the mince pies and booze and I have some micro adventures in the run up to the festive season.

So far though 3 miles is hard work for me. I know I will be back to pounding out good mileage in a couple of weeks but it never gets easier. I love it.

Snowdonia Run and Camp.

We all went camping this weekend In the mountains of Snowdonia. It’s only an hours drive to get into the heart of this beautiful range from where we live. The kids love it and it gives me a great opportunity to run in this stunning landscape. My mate Gaz joined us (the bloke I did the Glencoe Marathon with).

We only did a 3 miler because Gaz is coming back from a serious injury. That was enough to be honest it was hard going in some parts with slippery rocks and rushing streams. Great fun and a great night camping cooking marsh-mellows over the camp fire.

Reservoir Run

Alwen Reservoir & dam I’m taking the day off work tomorrow to run around this place with my wife. It’s a great 7 mile route starting at the bottom right of the reservoir and then going clockwise all the way round. Can’t wait.

A Run

This blog has come full circle with imaginative titles like the one above. I have just got back from a brutal 4 miler down the beach where the wind is at full throttle. So much so I can't hear the music on my MP3 player. I say brutal not because of any great effort on my part but because of the crap shape I'm in. To much beige food and booze.

I'm off to Scotland next week to kayak the whole of The River Spey with a friend who is doing it in an open canoe. We are going to wild camp along the way so it should take 4 or 5 days. The river is famous for its whiskey distilleries on its banks so we have planned to visit one or two. Probably not a good idea but who am I to say no?

No Sweat

Another early run in Beautiful sunshine down the beach. I didn't see a soul all the way round until I passed Aldi where people were queuing for it to open.

This is my post run sweat puddle. I can see Bart Simpson looking to the left with his tongue out.

I have been off the booze for an incredible 10 days. Which for me is great. I managed to do a 6 mile run on Sunday morning at a leisurely pace. It will now take me several months to stop sweating. I was going to have a rest today but the weather is still great so I went for a 3 miler after work. The hills in the background are the Clwydian Range. These are always in view when I do this 3 mile route.

Bike And Run

Got up early after a sober Friday evening and went for a nice 3.5 mile run down to the beach. The weather is great and I feel guilty being indoors when the sun is out so later on in the afternoon I went for a little 6 miler on my rattling old bike. Chris Froom would crap himself if he saw me rumbling along on it.

Going to get out and do a 6 mile run in the morning.
