Greatest Running Apps

Running the streets to the sound of you own feet everyday can get tough, especially when the weather takes a turn for the worse. However, a good app can be a runner’s best friend, with interesting features and handy functions to help you to keep up your motivation up, even during the cold and wet of winter.

Nike+ Running

The Nike running app is one of the most popular in a very competitive market. As well as some great features, like a calorie counter and map tracker, there is a great website to go with it. This means that if you want to sell your htc desire or your iPhone or other smartphone, you can reinstall the app on a new device, with all your data safely backed up online.

Ghost Race

As well as keeping tabs on the usual things like mileage and time, Ghost Race allows you to save various routes while also recording your personal bests. The audio function on the app allows you to compare your progress along your run versus your previous times, keeping you up to date and well and truly motivated.

Runmeter

Runmeter is an excellent running app with a nice, easy to use interface. The app records your time, location and distance, as well as keeping you informed of your speed and even elevation. The only downside is that there is no website available to go with it, which means that you can’t keep track of your records on your computer. However, for just a purely phone based running app, it’s one of the best.

MapMyRun

MapMyRun is packed with functions and features. The free app responds to voice commands to tell you your speed, distance, time and the number of calories you’re burning. As well as all this, the app has a massive database of running routes to help you keep your jogs interesting.

RunKeeper Pro

At around £6, RunKeeper Pro is one of the most expensive running apps out there. However, it is one of the most talked about too and if you get it, you’ll certainly use it enough to justify the cost. It’s well designed and easy to use with a clear interface that gives you your vital statistics, like time, speed and distance, at a glance. The handy app also has changeable running workouts and has a function that allows you to control your music through it too.

Easy 5K With Jeff Galloway

As well as a charming name, the Easy 5K With Jeff Galloway app is great for people trying to get into running. The first few weeks of the sport can be the hardest, particularly if you’re starting in winter after the festive period, however, the app helps to keep your motivation from dropping with different training plans and a nifty beat-sync function that changes the temp of your music to let you know if you’re slacking off.

So there you are. Now you have absolutely no excuse to postpone your run. It’s also a perfect way to keep warm and save on some heating bills this winter.
