I really do hate doing this sort of training and it is twice as hard with me being so out of shape lately but I know it’s the best and quickest way to a return of some sort fitness.
I did 10 “as fast as I could” hill reps with each one being about 80 to a 100 meters long. Blowing out of my arse and every other orifice was the order of the day. Did I mention I hate this stuff?
In an effort to control how much rubbish I’m putting inside this bag of meat and bones I am going down the route of monitoring my food intake. This is today’s effort. Seems quite healthy to me. I hope.
Despite what all those magazines say there is no easy way to get truly fit. So today instead of mincing about doing a slow run I hit the hill Sprints hard. I found an incline on a quiet country lane and did 15 Sprints of about 200 meters with a rest in between. So painful so very painful which is obviously why I don’t do them that much. Towards the end say about the tenth one it would be very hard to describe them as Sprints.

After i had finished work i went out with the intention of doing some hill sprints or just old fashioned running fast getting my breath back and repeat until i feel sick. I also came up with a little plan where i try to “write” my name with the GPS. This failed as you can see from the result below unless my name is squiggly line which indeed it is not. So next time I’m gonna find a big field and make a better effort. Yes i felt sick at the end.
Instead of going for some mileage i ran about half a mile to a quiet spot in the sticks so i could do some lung busting shuttle runs. Very painful indeed. I mark out about 100 meters and then mark about one third, half way and two thirds then sprint to the first mark and back to the start then sprint to the second mark and back to the start and carry on doing that until i have completed all marks right up to the 100 meter point. It’s a killer but a good alternative to a tempo run.
The hail and snow came crashing down when i was out and this photo does not convey how dramatic it all was………..well it wouldnt would it?
This afternoon at work (again) i went to do some sprints/speed work. I know a quiet road that has a bit of a hill in it and paced out using the Garmin, 300 meters. I did 5 X 300 meter sprints. I was going to try 6 but my legs said NO! The thick blue line on the Google Earth image is where i did the sprints and tried to recover on the walk back to each start. The GPS track obviously drifted a little i think this is because the road i was on has branches overhanging on each side and this caused weak signals. That or i was in such a delirious state i started running in the fields with the Sheep.
